Day 22
Day 22
September 29, 2015
Today was to be a short ride of 38 miles from Castle Rock, Colorado to Compassion headquarters in Colorado Springs. My route took me through some beautiful Colorado ranch country with a steady climb for most of the mileage. I enjoyed a leisurely morning and set out at 10:00 am. My “short ride” became more interesting when I encountered 15-18 mile headwinds for the entire ride. There were times when all I could do was make 7-8 miles per hour against the wind. Needless to say I kept my head down most of the ride. I did manage to arrive at Compassion by about 1:45 in the afternoon and just ahead of an infamous Colorado Springs lightning and rain storm. I was met by our friends Greg Frady and Rob Porter. Rob treated Marilyn and me to a wonderful Chinese lunch.
Marilyn and I are so honored to have our sister-in-law, Celeste Rault, fly in from New York. Later that evening Marilyn, Celeste and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner and fellowship with several of Compassion’s leadership. We are so grateful to be aligned with Compassion. They are wonderful hosts but, more importantly, the work Compassion does to address the true needs of children in poverty is remarkable. We are thankful to be a small part of God’s great work through Compassion. Tomorrow we will enjoy attending chapel services at Compassion then off to Pueblo, Colorado in the afternoon.
